My Father's Garden

LeJuan Council, Founder of Feed Your Neighborhood Corp, was raised in a farming household, learning firsthand from her father who worked the land with care and purpose. As she grew older, she continued this legacy through the garden at her home, where she grows fruits, vegetables, and herbs for her family and neighbors.

FYN grows fresh produce to support local food banks and community members in need. For over five years, we have transformed vacant lots into vibrant community gardens where residents grow their own food, learn fundamentals of homeland management, gain agricultural skills, and strengthen community connections. We are incorporating agrivoltaics, the integration of solar panel structures within gardens, to generate clean energy while enhancing sustainability and improving growing conditions through shading and water conservation.

The Detroit Black Farmer Land grant allows us to promote educational outreach and food security. This program puts nonprofits on the frontline and gives us the resources we need to serve our community with heavier food systems. Through collaboration and consistency, we aim to create safer, healthier environments for youth and families across the city.
